Infant Safe Sleep
The Infant Safe Sleep module provides education and training for healthcare providers to better address Sudden Unexplained Infant Death (SUID). An average of 22 otherwise healthy infants die each year in New Mexico, with their deaths attributed to SUID. The long-term health goal of this project is to reduce the number of infants dying from SUID in New Mexico. In order to accomplish this, we are providing training to increase the translation of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) guidelines regarding infant safe sleep into practice in the hospital setting and in the education of new parents. The training focuses on personnel working in mother-baby units or newborn nurseries and is designed to increase knowledge, self-efficacy, and intent to put the guidelines into practice. Infant Safe Sleep is a collaboration between the Office for Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) and the Prevention Research Center.

Target Audience
Hospital physicians and clinical staff working in mother-baby units or newborn nurseries.
Learning Objectives
Learners will demonstrate competence in the most current infant safe sleep practices recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Learners will demonstrate competence in the ability to teach infant safe sleep practices to culturally diverse parents and families of infants.
